What Is It About

This bootcamp focuses on the creation, preparation, and optimisation of digital environments for virtual production. Participants learn how assets, environments, and data are developed for LED stages and real-time filmmaking, with Generative AI integrated into Unreal Engine workflows. The programme covers the full content pipeline, from concept development to on-set readiness.

Participants will:

  • Create and optimise virtual production–ready assets and environments
  • Integrate Generative AI tools into real-time Unreal Engine workflows
  • Understand performance, scale, lighting, and colour constraints for LED volumes
  • Build structured data and versioning systems for flexible on-set use
  • Prepare multiple visual variations for live production scenario

Each participant receives a Certificate of Professional Competence in Virtual Production, aligned with the focus of the bootcamp.

Week Structure

Day 1 – Virtual Production Content Pipeline

  • Role of data and content in virtual production
  • Differences between VFX, game, and VP assets
  • Performance, scale, and realism requirements
  • Overview of real-time constraints
  • Sustainability considerations in digital production

Day 2 – Generative AI for Virtual Production

  • Overview of AI tools (image, video, 3D, text)
  • AI-assisted concept design and environment ideation
  • Ethical, legal, and copyright considerations
  • Prompting strategies for production use

Day 3 – AI-Assisted Environment Creation

  • Generating textures, skies, matte backgrounds, and references
  • AI workflows for terrain, foliage, and architecture
  • Translating AI output into Unreal Engine-ready assets

Day 4 – 3D Assets, Scans & Hybrid Workflows

  • Photogrammetry and scan data basics
  • Combining scans, procedural tools, and AI-generated assets
  • Cleanup, retopology, and optimisation
  • Maintaining visual consistency

Days 5–6 – Unreal Engine for VP Content Creators

  • Importing and organising VP-ready assets
  • Material setups for LED walls
  • HDRI-based lighting
  • Reflections, shadows, global illumination
  • Avoiding common VP artefacts
  • Look development under real-time constraints
  • Data versioning and creative flexibility
  • Preparing multiple looks for on-set changes

Day 7 – Review & Certification

  • Individual practical assessment
  • Workflow presentation
  • Structured feedback
  • Certification

How It Works

The bootcamp combines focused technical sessions with daily applied studio work.
Participants test AI-driven workflows, optimize assets for real-time rendering, and prepare content under realistic LED stage constraints.
Exercises simulate production conditions, including last-minute creative changes, performance limits, and collaboration with camera and stage departments.
Work is completed individually and in small teams to reflect contemporary virtual production pipelines.

Who Is It For

  • Digital and environment artists
  • VFX and technical artists
  • AI creatives working with visual content
  • Unreal Engine users developing film-ready assets
  • Mid-career post-production professionals transitioning into virtual production

Typical career paths include

  • Virtual Production Operator
